DBQ: Martin Luther King and Malcolm X - Whose philosophy made the most sense for America in the 1960s?

This DBQ has 6 parts - they will all be turned in at the same time.  If you'd like to start working on it outside of class time, here are the links you will need:

If you would like to turn in any late work that was due from March 14 - April 15, it must be turned in by Friday, April 22.  After that, not more work from the first half of the quarter will be accepted.

In class, we were researching information for our Capstone Project.  You need to find one article for each time period and complete the Gathering Evidence paper in the 10th Grade Capstone class in Google Classroom.  After Thursday, you should have at least ONE Gathering Evidence completed.

Cold War Storybook

Today we begin our Cold War Storybook.  We will work on this IN CLASS this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  After Friday, you will need to complete the rest on your own time.

Storybooks are due TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9.  If your storybook is late, you will lose 10% for each day it is late.

REMEMBER:

  • Summaries must be in YOUR words - no copying from other students, from the book, or from a random internet site.
  • Pictures must be drawn by YOU - do not print anything to glue or tape in your storybook.  You allowed to get ideas from the internet or your book.

Using the packet, students will find evidence to support each argument on the poster.
  • "Hiroshima as Victimization" will support the "NO" column.
  • "Hiroshima as Triumph" will support the "YES" column.
  • Document A will support both YES and NO
  • For documents B-E, students will have to determine if the evidence supports YES or NO.  Evidence will then be placed on the proper place on the chart.

  • Monday: Students worked in groups to complete "Clue Sheet #1" in Google Classroom.  Once the chart was complete, the group answered 6 questions on their data.

  1. What was happening to consumer prices during the 1920s? 1930s?
  2. Which groups would be most negatively affected by the changes in prices you identified?
  3. What was the trend in the unemployment rate in the 1920s? 1930s?
  4. What was happening to spending by the federal government in the 1920s? 1930s?
  5. What events might explain government spending patterns in the 1920s? 1930s?
  6. What events occurred in the US or the world that would affect the peoples’ lives directly or indirectly in the 1920s? 1930s ? Explain that impact of two of these events.

  • Tuesday: Students finished "Clue Sheet #1" in Google Classroom.  The group then began working on "Clue Sheet #2" and answering the 3 questions based on the data they gathered.
  1. How are the overall employment trends related to income?
  2. Why was farm income depressed throughout the 1920s?
  3. What caused the trends in government spending during this time?
